A Yoga Routine to Open Your Heart Chakra

Home » Healing » A Yoga Routine to Open Your Heart Chakra

The heart chakra, or Anahata in Sanskrit, is the fourth energy center in your body and the foundation of compassion, love and beauty. Because of its central location, the heart chakra is associated with the cardiac system and the lungs. Moreover, the gland associated with this chakra is the thymus, a major organ in the regulation of the immune system.

The heart chakra connects all of the chakras together and is the point that integrates your body’s earthly matters with your higher aspirations.

This chakra is responsible for your capacity to love, your deep appreciation of beautiful things and your ability to connect with people and experience unconditional love. It is at the same time the center of yourself, your connections and how you relate to others. Its responsibility is to send out love and receive it in an open way with no limitations. The heart chakra is a very important element to any relationship, whether the one you have with yourself or the one you have with others.

The heart chakra can suffer from imbalances because of emotionally charged experiences or significant changes in your environment. This might manifest itself in your life with an energy blockage in your body or, the complete opposite, with a tendency to be overactive and have excess energy.

If you are experiencing any of the following in your life, then these are signs that your heart chakra is out of balance:

  • Jealousy
  • Fear of intimacy
  • Holding grudges
  • Co-dependency on others and the urge to have their approval
  • Always putting oneself in the role of the saviour, or on the contrary playing the role of the victim

There are many ways one can help heal and open their heart chakra. However, one of the ‘easy-to-adopt’ ways is by doing some yoga poses that are focused on opening the chest and the shoulders.

So if you are feeling any of these manifestations in your life or if you would like to open your heart and connect your human and spiritual aspirations for better connections and relationships, we suggest you incorporate this 7 minutes heart-opening sequence in your workout routine.

Happy Healing!
