A Healing Guide To Open Your Root Chakra

Home » Healing » A Healing Guide To Open Your Root Chakra

The root chakra, or Muladhara, is the first of the seven chakras and is located at the base of your spine. This chakra, similarly to the foundation of a building, is the basis of the rest of the chakras and the anchor of the human body.

The root chakra is responsible for your feelings of safety and security. On an individual level, it is comprised of whatever provides the person with stability in their life. For most people, this would be food, water, safety and shelter. On a psychological level, the root chakra is related to confidence, trust, acceptance, and comfort.

Opening the root chakra is needed for the proper balance of the rest of the chakras. On a physical level, Muladhara is linked to the bladder, kidneys, lower spine and back.

When the root chakra is flowing with energy, you feel grounded and secure. When it is blocked, the physical signs could range from constipation to back pain and exhaustion. You may feel anxiety, fear, insecurity and mistrust. In men, this could also manifest itself with prostate problems. A damaged root chakra could be felt when someone is having trouble finding his place in the world.

How to open your root chakra?

1- Meditation

Meditation allows you to ground yourself and connect to your higher spiritual self. If you are having doubts and lacking trust, listening to your higher purpose will help boost your confidence, listen to your intuition and give you that feeling of safety knowing you are on the right path.

2- Yoga

There are some yoga asanas that you can try to help open and balance your root chakra.

  • Knee to chest pose
  • Head to knee pose
  • Lotus flexion
  • Squatting pose

3- Affirmations

Affirmations are something you can use during the course of the day if you feel your root chakra is blocked and you can’t take some time to meditate. These affirmations tend to emphasize the person’s connection with and rightful place in the world.

  • The world around me is a safe place
  • I am in integrated part of this world
  • I am at peace with people and the world around me

4- Aromatherapy

Some of the essential oils that can be used to open the root chakra are: Cedar, Rosewood, Ginger, Cloves, Black Pepper, Rosemary and Sandalwood.

5- Sound Therapy

You can also listen to this hypnotic Tibetan singing bowl sound that is attuned to the root chakra at the right frequency to help balance it.

As a final advice, we suggest you take things slow. Start by spending more time in nature, breathing slowly and trying to connect to earth. After that, you can start implementing one or more of these techniques to bring more mindfulness and help open your root chakra.
