No, not just against Vampires and warding off any possibility of a romantic evening.

This is the arsenal you need against the cold and flu season that is inevitably enveloping us with the drastic temperature swings of Fall. So we are going full force with immune-boosting recipes for you this week, and this time-proven gem is the feather in our cap.

It’s literally medicine in a bowl.

Obviously there is no immediate antidote that wipes out cold or flu, but there are things that are wickedly effective at getting all the right processes going in your body to fight them, and fast. One of the biggest frontrunners for the prize in doing this job is garlic. So before we hand you the recipe, let’s give this superstar a tiny bit of airtime. You probably know that garlic is good for you. But how much do you know about why?

  1. Allicin, a chemical constituent found in garlic, has been studied because of its antibiotic impact on treating drug resistant bacterial infections and disease, as well as viral and fungal infections. This is, however, largely present in garlic when it is RAW. So you can always chew on a few cloves on the side of your soup, or add some shavings on top.
  1. Numerous other studies indicate scientific proof of garlic’s effectiveness in treating cardiovascular ailments, regulating blood pressure, fighting mycotic and parasitic infections, treating atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries), and even managing bad cholesterol.
  1. Research also outlines its immune-boosting, antioxidant, anti-microbial and anti-tumor effects.
  1. For colds and flu’s specifically, garlic has decongestant and expectorant effects (it gets the mucus out), and has amazing enzymes, minerals, and Vitamin C to bring to the table too.
  1. Garlic has been used both in culinary and medicinal forms for over 5000 years!

Are you ready?

Here is one great recipe you can try out (Note: We’d suggest replacing the cream with coconut milk, and cutting out the parmesan, because dairy wreaks havoc when you’re sick):
