Do You Think Trees Can Talk to Each Other?

After talking about the nature of how we impact reality in our blog ‘What Do You Think You Know About Reality? This Might Surprise You, and introducing the work of Dr. Emoto and how our thoughts influence the structure of the water, we would like to shed light on another interesting phenomena that happens in the forest.

Trees Communicate Together!

According to Suzanne Simard, an ecologist at the University of British Columbia, “A forest has an amazing ability to communicate and behave like a single organism – an ecosystem.”

We tend to think that communication is reserved for humans and animals but the truth is, trees communicate underground. They act as a support for each other, compete for resources and share crucial information.

The communication happens through fungi.

Because they are underground, the fungi don’t have access to light and chlorophyll to survive, so they feed off the sugar and carbon produced by the trees.

In exchange, the fungi release nutrients for the trees such as phosphorous and nitrogen.

The fungi are also responsible for creating a network of connections between the trees, which allows them to communicate and protect themselves.

And that is not only for neighbouring trees, but also over vast distances.
